YEREVAN, Armenia — On April 18, the American University of Armenia (AUA) Manoogian Simone College of Business and Economics (MSCBE) hosted the national round of the Tatevatsi Economics Olympiad.
The Tatevatsi Economics Olympiad is organized by the School for Economic Decisions in cooperation with AUA, the Economics Fundamentals Initiative (USA), and the International Economics Olympiad (Czech Republic/Greece), and with the support of the Central Bank of Armenia and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.
MSCBE Dean Dr. Vache Gabrielyan; the Master of Science in Economics Program Chair Dr. Gurgen Aslanyan; and the Bachelor of Arts in Business Program Chair Dr. Gayane Barseghyan, served on the jury that conducted oral examinations to select the finalists who will represent Armenia in Greece this August. The other jury members included Avag Avanesyan, the Republic of Armenia’s deputy minister of finance, Dr. Arshaluys Harutyunyan, head of the Macroeconomic Policy department at the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Aleksandr Shirkhanyan, head of research at the Central Bank of Armenia, Dr. Yevgenya Bazinyan, adjunct professor in the Master of Business Administration program at AUA, and Dr. Karine Avetisyan, chair of Actuarial and Financial Mathematics at Yerevan State University. Bachelor of Science in Economics program Chair Dr. Hayk Kamalyan delivered welcoming remarks to students from around 100 schools across Armenia, who went through competitive rounds of selection and sat for the national round’s test at AUA, and the best performers on the national round test advanced to oral examination.
The Economics Olympiad inspires curiosity and confidence among students, helping them explore the world of economics through engaging challenges and collaboration. By joining this initiative, schools and teachers enrich their curricula with interactive learning, while students gain valuable analytical, teamwork, and problem-solving skills that prepare them for future academic and professional success.
MSCBE’s participation in events such as the Economics Olympiad is another reflection of its commitment to preparing future economists and business leaders. High school students interested in economics are strongly encouraged to participate and start preparing for next year’s Economics Olympiad.
