ARENI, Armenia — On October 2, the American University of Armenia (AUA) Extension launched a new program for the Areni community in Vayots Dzor. The classroom dedicated for this purpose was allocated to AUA Extension by the Areni municipality at no cost. It will serve as the primary venue for various Extension courses that will be offered to the local community, as part of the new program.
Areni Mayor Husik Sahakyan joined AUA Extension staff for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Also in attendance were various other administrative leaders from neighboring communities and school principals, as well as dozens of community members.
“I welcome this important initiative of the American University of Armenia and hope it will grow to provide greater opportunities for the municipality staff and the larger public to participate in its courses while improving their English proficiency,” said Sahakyan.
The classroom will be used for conducting English language courses for children and adults, as well as professional development training workshops and seminars, which will be tailored to the needs of the local community.
“One of the primary objectives of AUA Extension is to make our courses accessible to local populations in several regions of Armenia,” said Dr. Arpie Balian, director of AUA Extension.
AUA Extension is the non-degree educational program of the American University of Armenia (AUA), with programs especially geared to meeting the educational needs of individuals from diverse backgrounds and occupations, as well as governments and corporate organizations. Extension courses are intended to expand participants’ knowledge for personal growth and professional development to best suit individual goals and career choices. Thus, Extension helps students reach their highest potential, whether for admission to AUA or for expanding knowledge and skills to become more competitive in the labor market. Additionally, AUA Extension provides testing services on behalf of various standardized tests for college admission and exams for international professional certification.
