AUA Students and Professor Publish Papers in Peer-Reviewed Journals

08.09.2025

YEREVAN, Armenia — The American University of Armenia (AUA) Zaven P. and Sonia Akian College of Science and Engineering (CSE) is pleased to announce that AUA students, under the guidance of Dr. Sachin Kumar, have recently published two research papers in Machine Learning for Computational Science and Engineering and Quantum Reports.

The first article, titled “A Review on Models and Applications of Quantum Computing,” was published in Quantum Reports. It examines major computational models, including gate-based (circuit) quantum computing, adiabatic quantum computing, measurement-based quantum computing, and the quantum Turing machine. The paper provides a concise yet comprehensive guide to both the theoretical foundations and applied aspects of quantum computing. It was co-authored by AUA graduate student Eduard Grigoryan (MSCIS ’25), along with Dr. Sachin Kumar, and Dr. Placido Rogério Pinheiro.

The second article, published in Machine Learning for Computational Science and Engineering, is a review paper focused on multimodal fake news detection and potential directions for future research. The co-authors are Anna Mikayelyan (BSDS ’26) and Amalya Tadevosyan (BSDS ’26), both senior students in the Bachelor of Science in Data Science program.

Both publications are outcomes of the Machine Learning (ML) course offered during the Spring 2025 semester.

Reflecting on the publications, Dr. Kumar remarked, “It’s encouraging to see our students actively participating in academic research projects and publication activities. These experiences not only strengthen their understanding of research and critical thinking but also significantly enhance their academic profiles. Such achievements are especially valuable when applying for Master’s and PhD programs at reputed universities around the world. I’m proud of their dedication and look forward to seeing where their efforts take them next.”

Earlier this year, Dr. Kumar and ML course students published another paper in Machine Learning for Computational Science and Engineering.

These achievements highlight the academic excellence of AUA’s students and faculty, while also demonstrating the University’s growing contribution to global research in emerging fields such as quantum computing and artificial intelligence.
