YEREVAN, Armenia — Research Network for the Green Transformation of Agriculture in Germany, Armenia, and Kazakhstan (GreenAgro) partners from the University of Hohenheim were hosted by the American University of Armenia (AUA) Acopian Center for the Environment to explore research collaboration paths and opportunities.
GreenAgro is a short-term project that enables partners to explore innovative solutions at the intersection of climate, biodiversity, and agriculture. It aims to establish a long-term research, teaching, and innovation partnership that will support the green transformation of the agricultural sector in the participating countries.
The University of Hohenheim and the AUA Acopian Center teams held an intensive session discussing and brainstorming potential areas of research and teaching collaboration. The visitors also accompanied the AUA Acopian Center to the Sevan Summit Startup 2025’s Greenovate Youth Summit, where Dr. Martin Dietrich, professor at the Institute of Landscape and Plant Ecology at the University of Hohenheim, was a keynote speaker.
The visiting team included Dr. Sabine Zikeli, Dr. Andreas Lemmer, Dr. Julia Schneider, Dr. Olga Koroed, and Dr. Anastasia Oskina. During the Summit, partners from the University of Hohenheim also met with representatives of local conservation and agricultural organizations.
The University of Hohenheim colleagues then visited the Dilijan National Park’s Red Deer Breeding Center, followed by a trip to the village of Margahovit in Lori Province to get acquainted with traditional agricultural practices in Armenia by observing animal husbandry and dairy farms.
The GreenAgro project’s visit to Armenia underscored the value of international collaboration in addressing shared environmental challenges. Through joint events, field visits, and institutional exchanges, partners strengthened networks that will support the development of more sustainable and biodiversity-friendly agricultural systems. These engagements mark an important step toward long-term cooperation between Armenia, Germany, and Kazakhstan in research, education, and innovation.
