YEREVAN, Armenia — As an AUA ChangeMaker, Anna Bakunts (MBA ’11) is actively shaping opportunities for the students of the American University of Armenia (AUA). Her HR consulting and workforce development firm, HR Lab Los Angeles, is now partnering with the Bachelor of Arts in Business program at the University to offer an internship program to AUA students, allowing them to gain applied learning experience by working on real-world projects. Through this initiative, Bakunts aims to cultivate the next generation of Armenian business professionals, equipping them with practical skills and insights that enhance their academic learning and facilitate a smooth transition into successful careers.

Arsen Akopyan (BAB ’27) decided to combine his dual interests in psychology and finance to study the field of marketing through the Bachelor of Arts in Business program at AUA.

Akopyan enjoys the Western-style educational system provided by the University, which allows him to access diverse resources and opportunities to explore different fields.

During his sophomore year, Akopyan enrolled in the Internship course, which allowed him to apply for intern positions at various companies. HR Lab Los Angeles, with its unique mission and training opportunities, caught his eye, inspiring him to submit an application. Now, as an HR Lab Los Angeles intern, Akopyan primarily focuses on crafting social media content. He believes his studies at AUA have equipped him with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to develop creative strategies to attract new customers.

“Anna is a supportive and empathetic leader,” said Akopyan. “It was interesting to learn that she was also a student at AUA. Our educational journeys are what we share in common. We often talk about how much the University has grown, and it is inspiring to see how Anna has remained an active member of this community.”

Silva Movsisyan (BSDS ’27) took English language courses at AUA prior to enrolling as an undergraduate student. When it was time to choose a career path, Movsisyan decided to apply to the University’s Bachelor of Science in Data Science program in order to explore her interest in bioinformatics.

In addition to her studies, Movsisyan interns at HR Lab Los Angeles, working on data. She learned about this opportunity through the AUA Career Center and chose to seize the chance to take a step into the workforce.

“It is a pleasure to work with Anna,” said Movsisyan. “Keeping her own experience in mind, she understands our perspective as students. I truly appreciate her support and her interest in our studies, goals, and accomplishments. Having a mentor like her is highly rewarding.”

Through her mentorship and commitment, Bakunts is opening doors for AUA students, building a bridge between academic learning and professional growth and empowering the next generation to thrive.
