AUA Data Science Graduates Advancing Careers in Armenia and Beyond

28.03.2025

YEREVAN, Armenia — The American University of Armenia (AUA) Bachelor of Science in Data Science (BSDS) graduates build careers in diverse industries, both locally and internationally. Many pursue further studies at prestigious institutions, including Stanford University, the University of Oxford, and Université de Lyon, while others continue their education at AUA in programs such as the Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering and Systems Management and the Master of Science in Computational and Information Sciences. These programs provide complementary knowledge, preparing graduates for leadership roles in data-driven industries.

The professional landscape for AUA BSDS graduates is vast. 95% of graduates have secured roles in top international and local companies. Data scientists from AUA’s BSDS program are driving innovation at PicsArt and ServiceTitan, while others contribute to academia and research as bioinformaticians, machine learning researchers, and research associates at institutions such as the University of Oxford and the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology. The financial sector also actively recruits AUA BSDS graduates, with alumni working as data analysts and specialists at Ameriabank, Inecobank, and Questrade International Inc.

The demand for AUA BSDS graduates continues to grow, with companies actively seeking them for their technical expertise and analytical capabilities. Dr. Habet Madoyan, BSDS program chair, remarks “Our program equips graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully land their first job. These skills go beyond coding, mathematics, and statistics — they also include soft skills, time management, teamwork, presentation, and communication. We also strive to stay connected with our alumni, continuing to support them even after graduation.”

Employers appreciate the adaptability and skillset of AUA’s BSDS graduates. Sevak Kamalyan, co-founder and CEO of Armat Analytics LLC, states, “AUA’s Data Science program graduates demonstrate exceptional qualities in several key areas. Their strong analytical mindset, statistical analysis knowledge, and machine learning skills form a solid technical foundation. What sets them apart is their learner mindset, allowing them to quickly adapt in fast-paced environments where processing large volumes of documents and literature is essential. Their English proficiency further enhances their effectiveness, enabling clear communication and supporting their ability to learn and adapt rapidly in dynamic settings.”

Arman Zakaryan, sr. manager, DS/ML at ServiceTitan Armenia, notes, “I’ve had the pleasure of working with AUA Data Science and Computer Science alumni, both as employees and as interns. I observed that they have a solid foundation in data science, bringing genuine curiosity and determination to tackle deeply complex data problems. They communicate exceptionally well and know how to present their ideas clearly. They thrive in collaborative environments, working seamlessly with others.”

AUA BSDS graduates attribute their success to the Program’s rigorous curriculum, hands-on projects, and supportive academic environment.

Susanna Avagyan (BSDS ’22), currently pursuing graduate studies at Stanford University, shares, “Studying data science at AUA gave me an essential foundation that I consistently draw upon in my current graduate studies and research. The Program’s rigorous curriculum not only provided me with strong technical and analytical skills but also fostered soft skills, critical thinking, and a strong capacity for independent learning, which have proven invaluable in both academic and professional environments. Equally important was the lasting network I built — faculty, staff, and peers who have continued to support, mentor, and collaborate with me well beyond graduation, to this day, even from oceans away.”

Anna Abrahamyan (BSDS ’22), now furthering her studies at Université de Lyon and interning at ARCHIMED, reflects, “My experience at AUA was truly foundational in my journey as a data scientist. I was one of the first to join the newly launched Data Science program, and I’m proud of that decision! The program provided me with strong fundamentals in data science, equipping me with critical, analytical, and problem-solving skills through hands-on projects and real-world data applications. Beyond being a student, my journey with AUA was even more meaningful as I worked there as a data analyst for a year before starting my master’s. That experience allowed me to apply what I had learned in a professional setting, reinforcing my knowledge and giving me valuable hands-on experience. This background has been instrumental in my current studies and professional journey.”

Tatevik Jalatyan (BSDS ’22), now a bioinformatician at Armenian Bioinformatics Institute, states, “Studying data science at AUA was a transformative experience for me. The Program’s well-balanced mix of in-depth coursework and hands-on projects helped me develop the analytical and computational skills needed for working with complex datasets. The education I received at AUA, combined with the support and mentorship of the faculty, played a significant role in shaping my academic journey and preparing me for my graduate studies and research at the University of Oxford. But beyond academics, what truly made my time at AUA special were the friends and mentors I found along the way, something I’ll always be deeply grateful for.”

Beyond securing employment in leading companies, many AUA BSDS graduates have launched their own businesses, contributing to Armenia’s growing tech ecosystem. Others have secured positions at global organizations, further demonstrating the competitiveness of AUA’s BSDS program on an international scale.

As data science continues to evolve, AUA remains committed to equipping students with the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly data-driven world. With its graduates excelling in various industries and advancing research, the BSDS program continues to shape the next generation of data science professionals.
