YEREVAN, Armenia — David Dallakyan is a sophomore pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science at the American University of Armenia (AUA). Studying at AUA has introduced him to a new community, providing a chance to connect with like-minded peers and learn from distinguished faculty members — a rewarding experience for him.
In addition to academic pursuits, David is also interning as a data analyst at Wirestock. His background in computer science, combined with the soft skills gained at AUA, help him comprehend new information and apply his knowledge in a practical setting.
David is passionate about engaging in research to address various challenges in computer science. Currently, he is conducting research with Dr. Nelson Baloian, a visiting associate professor at the Zaven P. and Sonia Akian College of Science and Engineering. Their joint research focuses on resolving issues connected with examination schedules using hyper-heuristics, an advanced area within the field of optimization and search algorithms. “I wanted to be involved in research around artificial intelligence. While looking for different opportunities, I participated in Dr. Baloian’s seminar. After learning about his work, I realized that our research interests align, which provided a great opportunity for collaboration,” remarks David.
David has a deep-rooted connection to AUA because of his father, Karen Dallakyan (MBA ’06), an AUA alumnus and Scholarship Program supporter. While giving back to his alma mater, he instilled in his son the importance of quality education, inspiring him to follow in his footsteps. “When I began my studies at AUA, I couldn’t help but think about the fact that I am walking through the same campus my father once did. We often talk about AUA, and he always has valuable advice about my time here as a student — one of the most important being to take every opportunity AUA has to offer.”
Upon graduation, David intends to pursue a master’s degree at AUA, followed by a Ph.D. in machine learning and artificial intelligence. One of his long-term goals is to join AUA’s faculty and contribute to the advancement of Armenia’s scientific community.
