VAYOTS DZOR, Armenia — The American University of Armenia (AUA) proudly announces the successful launch of a new supermarket in Jermuk, a milestone achieved through the entrepreneurial efforts of Hermine Isakhanyan. This venture was made possible with the technical and financial support provided by AUA’s Turpanjian Rural Development Program (TRDP). As part of AUA Extension, TRDP continues to play a pivotal role in supporting entrepreneurs, fostering the establishment of new ventures, and creating job opportunities.
Hermine Isakhanyan’s journey exemplifies resilience, community empowerment, and entrepreneurial determination. Despite the challenges posed by Azerbaijan’s attack on Armenia on September 13, 2022, Isakhanyan remained steadfast in her vision. Her unwavering dedication culminated in the establishment of the supermarket, which not only serves as a beacon of hope for the residents of Jermuk but also creates four new local jobs, contributing to the region’s economic revival.
The supermarket will serve as a vital resource for the Jermuk community, offering a diverse range of goods tailored to meet local needs. Shoppers can find household essentials, stationery, and unique gift items, all conveniently available under one roof. By providing these products locally, the supermarket reduces the need for residents to travel to neighboring towns for everyday necessities, saving time and money while contributing to the town’s economic self-sufficiency. Furthermore, the business introduces a modern retail experience to the area, enhancing the shopping environment with improved accessibility, customer service, and product variety.
During the opening ceremony, Isakhanyan expressed heartfelt gratitude to the TRDP team for their indispensable support in turning her dream into reality. She highlighted the vital role of the skills and knowledge gained through AUA Extension’s Entrepreneurship Training, which equipped her to navigate challenges and successfully launch her business.
The AUA Turpanjian Rural Development Program, in collaboration with AUA Extension, provides education, funding, and consultations to both established and startup businesses in the rural communities of Shirak, Tavush, Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik, Lori, and Ararat provinces of Armenia, as well as in Samtskhe-Javakheti Region, Georgia.
