2 min read

YEREVAN, Armenia — The AGBU Papazian Library is pleased to announce the completed accession of a new collection of approximately 300 books generously donated by Dr. Rubina Peroomian, noted scholar and lecturer of Armenian language and literature.

Dr. Peroomian’s donation greatly enhances the library’s existing collection of works in the humanities, the foundation of which was laid by previous gifts by the late Richard G. Hovannisian and Vartan Gregorian. This collection of books represents Dr. Peroomian’s commitment to robust scholarship in the areas of genocide studies and literature, as well as a strong devotion to the continued growth of Armenian scholarship: These books and academic periodicals, almost all in the English language, have been my treasured companions through years of research and publication. Now that my career is coming to an end, I entrust them to AUA and hope that students will use them, especially those in the fields of genocide studies, history, and the Armenian Question. This institution has undertaken a significant role in educating future scholars and leaders of Armenia, and I am delighted to contribute to this important and worthy cause.

Dr. Peroomian obtained her Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Culture, specializing in Armenian Studies, from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1989. Her publications include Literary Responses to Catastrophe: A Comparison of the Armenian and Jewish Experience (1993), My Father: A Man of Courage and Perseverance, A Survivor of Stalin’s Gulag (2017), and a multi-volume study titled The Armenian Genocide in Literature (2012, 2015); among others.

The AGBU Papazian Library greatly encourages students, faculty, and staff to actively make use of this valuable collection. The entire AUA community expresses its endless appreciation for Dr. Peroomian’s gracious gift to the library.
