YEREVAN, Armenia — On May 13, the American University of Armenia (AUA) Manoogian Simone College of Business and Economics (CBE) hosted the republican round of the International Economics Olympiad attended by high school students from various countries and the regions of Armenia. The event was organized in partnership with the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA), the Center for Behavioral Decisions, the Institute of Economic Education, and the Economic Foundations Initiative, and brought to AUA participants from 15 countries.

The earlier AUA event in March had qualified 36 students to advance to the republican stage. A total of 400 students from various regions and 60 schools took part in that round.

The republican stage of the Olympiad comprised two parts: a written examination and oral presentation. The written part, designed by the Olympiad international partners in accordance with established standards, included essay writing, multiple-choice questions, computational problems, and graph analysis. The submissions were reviewed by a distinguished jury of representatives from Yerevan State University, Russian-Armenian University, State University of Economics of Armenia, AUA, CBA, Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Armenia, and the Caucasian Research Resources Center to assess participant submissions. The students were evaluated in their knowledge of economics, logical reasoning, and creative thinking. CBE members engaged in the jury included the Dean, Dr. Vache Gabrielyan, Master of Science in Economics Program Chair Dr. Gurgen Aslanyan, B.A. in Business Program Chair Dr. Gayane Barseghsyan, and CBE Assistant Professors Dr. Lena Seissian and Dr. Hayk Kamalyan.

The event marked Armenia’s inaugural participation in the International Economic Olympiad, a significant milestone for our country. It provided an excellent platform for students to showcase their acumen in economics on an international level and recognize the crucial role financial literacy plays in people’s lives. The Olympiad also focused on the importance of knowledge dissemination and the necessity of continued attention to promoting economic and financial literacy in the region.
