CBE Hosts iCEBA at AUA

YEREVAN, Armenia — On September 8, the American University of Armenia (AUA) Manoogian Simone College of Business and Economics (CBE) kicked off the Second International Conference on Econometrics and Business Analytics (iCEBA). The three-day conference was co-organized by AUA, Armenian Economic Association, Central Bank of Armenia, and Saint Petersburg State University. 

CBE Dean Dr. Vache Gabrielyan gave opening remarks followed by comments by Dr. Rustam Ibragimov of the Imperial College London. The keynote speech was delivered by world-famous economist of Armenian descent, Dr. Jean-Michel Zakoïan of the Center for Research in Economics and Statistics (ENSAE-CREST). This was followed by three parallel sessions on economics and government policies led by CBE faculty members, Dr. Gurgen Aslanyan, Dr. Vardan Baghdasaryan, and Dr. Aleksandr Grigoryan. The research topics they covered were “Labor Market Experiences and Expectations Amid Covid-19 Crisis,” “Location Spillover Effect on Tax Compliance Behavior,’’ and “Assessing the Effectiveness of National Social Transfer Programs: Evidence from Armenia for the Period 2004-2018,” respectively.

For the second day, the conference moved to Dilijan, where the CBE MS in Economics program shares facilities with the Central Bank of Armenia’s Training and Research Center. The conference returned to Yerevan for its third and final day. A total of 53 reports were presented covering a variety of research topics in econometrics and business analytics predominantly using Time Series analysis. The featured speakers of the conference included Dr. Giuseppe Cavaliere (University of Bologna), Dr. Esfandiar Maasoumi (Emory University), and Dr. Alexey Onatskiy (University of Cambridge). Dr. Artem Prokhorov (University of Sydney) delivered the concluding remarks, thanking AUA for hosting and co-organizing the conference and hopeful for a return visit.
