2 min read

YEREVAN, Armenia — During the week of August 8-12, the AGBU Papazian Library of the American University of Armenia (AUA) was proud to host a group of librarians from Goris and Artsakh. Eleven librarians from Artsakh State University, Shushi University of Technology, and AUA’s Open Education Center in Goris took part in the “Innovative Library Services and Practice Workshop” training program aimed at supporting libraries to become more advanced and improving their services.

Previously, on May 21, an AUA delegation had visited the Artsakh State University and Shushi University of Technology to discuss the possibility of establishing a technologically innovative library in Artsakh.

As a distinct component of that initiative, a week-long training program was developed to educate librarians on innovative practices and services. The program’s primary objectives included gaining a better understanding of library services in Armenia, developing skills and techniques in library management, networking with other professionals in the field, and acquiring new knowledge about innovative library technologies.

In daily hands-on workshops and presentations throughout the week, the participants had the opportunity to observe and learn from colleagues at the AGBU Papazian Library the competencies necessary for implementing the desired changes in their respective libraries.

“Libraries are constantly evolving, and library personnel must keep upgrading their skills and knowledge necessary for improved performance. I am very thankful to our library staff, experts from the Armenian library community, and guest speakers for making this program a success. This collaboration will continue in the future as we move into the next phase of our library development program,” remarked Satenik Avakian, director of the AGBU Papazian Library.
