PSIA Seminar: How Much Distrust and Trust Do We Need in a Democracy?

December 3, 2019 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm +04

AUA PSIA_Nicolas_Hayoz

About the Event:

Most countries in Eastern Europe have been presented as “low trust societies” for decades. One of the recent polls has confirmed this picture going even further to demonstrate that citizens in the examined democracies are “fearful for democracy” and have distrust towards a large degree government, political parties, and media.
The talk compares “high trusts societies” (Switzerland and Scandinavian countries) with “low trust countries” (most countries in Eastern or Southern Europe), where civil society actors are the only ones challenging corrupt governments with their protests for political reforms.
