AUA CSE Students Represent Armenia at Women in Tech Summit 20192 min read
WARSAW, Poland – On November 13-14, the Women in Tech Summit 2019 took place in Europe. As the biggest conference for women in IT and Tech, it gathered over 3000 participants from all over the world and provided an opportunity to discover the future of technology and to show the power of women in Tech.
The Armenian delegation attending the conference comprised five students from AUA: Maro Grigoryan (CS ‘20), Elen Gabrielyan (CS ‘21), Anna Tatinyan (CS ‘21), Aneta Baloyan (CS 21), and Arvin Bilenjian (CS ‘22).
“We were invited as representatives of women in the tech community of Armenia to exchange experiences and explore different practices of how to engage more women in STEM. The summit provided various opportunities, including attending workshops, connecting with mentors, and networking with like-minded people from all over the world,” said Maro Grigoryan.
Among the keynote speakers were Ela Czajka, software engineering manager at Google; Alexandria Butler, project manager and coach with Facebook; Giuseppina Smith, senior regional IT manager with Amazon; Anna Barker, director of Cisco Customer Experience, and many more women from renowned companies that touched upon a range of issues, including gender equality in Tech, cybersecurity, climate change, centered leadership, innovative mindset, and other topics. The conference also offered one-on-one mentoring sessions with the speakers, prelegents and experts.
One of the members of the Armenian delegation, Aneta Baloyan, remarked that the conference was very encouraging to them. “I had the opportunity to interact with successful women in tech and get valuable advice, new ideas and perspectives from them. After having a one-on-one mentoring session, I was very excited as I felt that my biggest goals are within reach and attainable. Such conferences help us zoom out and take a bigger look at our path.
