BAB Students Explore the Learning Environment at Murcia University, Spain

2 min read

The American University of Armenia (AUA) Bachelor of Arts in Business (BAB) junior students Alisa Aleksanyan, Liana Karapetyan, Meri Torosyan, and sophomore student Tamara Sedrakyan are currently at Murcia University (MU), Spain, spending their spring 2019 semester as Erasmus+ exchange students. Studying abroad in a different cultural and educational setting, they are offering interesting feedback on their learning and living experiences.

The students noted that there is considerable variance between the educational systems of Murcia and AUA. The main differences lie in the course structures and organization, evaluation system, and student-lecturer interactions. They account that it took them time to adapt to the unfamiliar learning environment of Murcia. But, they point out, the knowledge and skills they had gained at AUA have helped them to overcome the challenges and enjoy the learning process in a new setting. While AUA has shaped their way of thinking by introducing them to key business concepts and theories, the experience of studying abroad is supplementing their knowledge with an international perspective. The students’ journey also is an eye-opening and self-exploring experience as they strive to adapt to the new environment and do their best to achieve good results.

“Living in an environment of different cultures made us more tolerant, as well as opened our minds to new ways of thinking and reinforced our belief that neither is better, nor worse, but just different. We try to share our experience from AUA with the students and the faculty in UM, while also note the best practices they have here to bring back with us,” shared students.

By exchanging values and practices, the girls hope to enhance future collaboration between the two educational institutions.
