< 1 min read

The American University of Armenia (AUA) is pleased to announce the publication of Arto Vaun’s work in Wretched Strangers, a recent anthology published in the U.K. by Boiler House Press. The book brings together innovative writing from around the globe, celebrating the irreducible diversity such work brings to British poetry. It was published to mark the anniversary of the June 2016 Brexit vote and in solidarity with struggles ongoing and to come. Proceeds will be donated to charities fighting for the rights of refugees.

Vaun is the Chair of the English and Communications BA Program and Director of the Center for Creative Writing. He commented that he is honored to be in such prestigious company and feels strongly about the mission of the book. ‘The global menace of ultra-nationalism and xenophobia is something we must all stand against; literature and art is one of our best weapons.’ Vaun added, ‘My American and Armenian heritage is informed by questions and tensions of belonging, social justice, exile, and compassion. These impulses are often woven into my poetry.’

Wretched Strangers is available in most UK bookstores and also through Amazon and other outlets.
