YEREVAN, Armenia ‒ The American University of Armenia (AUA) is pleased to announce that Robert Yenokyan (BAB ‘18) has won the C-Quadrat Student Award on Asset Management and Pension Economics for his Capstone Honors Thesis presented at the Armenian Economic Association 2018 conference, held June 15-16, 2018. The thesis titled “Developing a Framework for Forecasting Financial Time Series Using Wavelet-LSTM Hybrid Model” was supervised by Dr. Gayane Barseghyan, Assistant Professor at the Manoogian Simone College of Business and Economics (CBE).

The Armenian Economic Association organizes conferences annually, bringing together international and local academics and researchers. Dr. Barseghyan encourages students to consider submitting their research papers for presentation at this annual conference. “If accepted, it is a great opportunity to share and discuss the results of their research with larger audiences and get feedback. The C-Quadrat award that Robert Yenokyan received is a recognition of excellence in student research and should serve as motivation for other AUA students to get more involved in economic research and to write theses.”

This year’s conference was jointly hosted by the Tumo Center for Creative Technologies and AUA. The opening session was held on June 14 featuring a round-table discussion on Economic Policy Issues with government representatives, as well as local and international economists, including Daron Acemoglu joining in via Skype. The two days that followed were dedicated to presentations of about 50 papers on various topics in economics and finance.

The C-Quadrat best student paper award was presented at the conference for the first time. Dr. Gurgen Aslanyan, the President of the Armenian Economic Association, states “the C-Quadrat Student Award together with Voskeni Wines Award aim to create student interest in research on topics in applied economics and establish high quality-standards for student-research across Armenia.”

Following the event, on June 25th, 2018, C-Quadrat Ampega Asset Management Armenia invited Yenokyan to its headquarters to present him the certificate for winning the C-Quadrat Student Award on Asset Management and Pension Economics. This was preceded by Yenokyan’s presentation of his award-winning paper and a discussion and exchange of insightful ideas on paper.

Earlier, Yenokyan’s paper was among the award-winning papers for the Honors Thesis 2018 projects at AUA.
