Currencii Wins Second Place in Venture Competition at Sevan Startup Summit 2018

SEVAN, Armenia ‒ The American University of Armenia (AUA) is proud to share that Currencii, one of the startup teams of the Entrepreneurship and Product Innovation Center (EPIC) at AUA, won second place in the final venture competition at Sevan Startup Summit 2018, held from July 22 to July 29.

During the week-long Summit, introductory sessions on a range of business and technical topics, workshops, and dialogues with leading entrepreneurs and investors were held. The Summit hosted more than 800 participants, as well as gathered several hundreds visitors, mentors, lecturers and investors from over 25 countries including USA, Russia, Georgia, Australia, India, Spain, Iran, and New Zealand.

Currencii is an online B2B marketplace for currency exchange, founded by Vahagn Grigoryan (MBA ’14). It is a bridge between currency buyers and sellers, helping them to minimize costs related to currency exchange. As a finalist and second place winner, Currencii received a $3,000 prize.

Professor Michael Kouchakdjian, Director of EPIC, who was a lecturer and mentor at the Summit, stated: “Vahagn has worked extremely hard to advance this venture. Winning second place out of more than 130 startup competitors validates the quality and potential of Currencii. I am sure that the many investors present at the Summit were impressed.”

Currently Currencii is raising funds to fuel its growth.

The Entrepreneurship and Product Innovation Center (EPIC) is a platform for promoting entrepreneurial education, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and startup venture incubation. EPIC provides an ecosystem for the American University of Armenia’s (AUA) emerging entrepreneurs consisting of first-class facilities and collaborative workspace, programs and events, and a network of mentors, advisors and investors. EPIC fosters the understanding and application of entrepreneurship with students and faculty at AUA to craft high-impact multidisciplinary ventures.
