AUA’s Center for Student Success Collaborates with Gyumri State Pedagogical University Writing Center

YEREVAN, Armenia – The American University of Armenia’s (AUA) Center for Student Success has begun collaborating with the Gyumri State Pedagogical University in order to assist in the establishment and development of a university writing center. AUA’s Math and Writing Center, staffed by AUA graduate and undergraduate students, provides academic support to students throughout the academic year.

Coordinator of Student Services Garine Palandjian states, “Aligned with the AUA mission of assisting in addressing the needs of Armenia, the Center for Student Success is happy to partner with Gyumri State Pedagogical University and share our best practices of developing a Writing Center.”

On August 13-14, 2014, the newly hired consultants were trained at the Math & Writing Center. Consultants were trained to develop an understanding of the philosophy and best practices involved in conducting consultations. The training took place in the Math & Writing Center at AUA’s Center for Student Success.

The Gyumri State Pedagogical University Writing Center was founded last year, but will open its doors to students in September. Administrative Coordinator Margarit Gevorgyan shared, “This collaboration is a good opportunity for us to compare how each of our writing centers work and how we can improve them. This two-day training was a great experience for me as a future writing consultant because we touched upon all the key points of the writing process. We are very grateful for this opportunity.”

The Center for Student Success is a learning environment that extends outside of the classroom and aims to promote student achievement of academic goals while enrolled at AUA. Through a holistic  approach to education, the Center provides a unique range of support programs including math and writing consultations, academic support services, disabilities services and workshops to enhance overall personal and academic development in a welcoming space. The Center encourages AUA students to challenge and support one another, to accept responsibility and to collaborate in serving the best interests of all students.
