AUA, AHEI, & Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Announce 2014 Summer Program

YEREVAN, Armenia – The American University of Armenia (AUA), in partnership with the Armenian Higher Education Initiative (AHEI) and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, is pleased to announce its 2014 Summer Program. The topic of this year’s program is art and cultural history. The program will take place at AUA from July 14-26, 2014 and is open to upper-level graduate students (MA and higher) as well as recent university graduates. The goals of the program are to enhance participants’ existing research capabilities, as well as to create links with one another, staff, and instructors that will enable future discussion about and collaboration on academic-related endeavors. The program will be conducted in Armenian.

Classes will run from 11:00-15:00 (with some lectures from 14:00-18:30), from Monday to Friday during the course of the two weeks. It will include lectures, seminars, and discussions dealing with contemporary issues in Armenian art and culture, as well as theoretical and methodological issues in the study of art history and culture. The program will also include field trips to museums, sites and galleries in the context of the topics discussed during the seminars. Attendance to all seminars and field trips is mandatory.

Program alumni will have the opportunity to collaborate with the distinguished program faculty members for a period following the completion of the program on research projects. Research projects will also be considered for publication in the Armenian Review, which is an English language, peer-reviewed academic journal. In addition to becoming program alumni, participants will have access to a wealth of academic resources shared by the AHEI organizational network, as well as that of the Gulbenkian Foundation and the American University of Armenia.

Program expenses are covered by the sponsoring institutions to enable free attendance by participants. However space is limited to a maximum of 20 participants. Interested candidates should send a resumé and application form (available here  and  online at www.armhei.org) to [email protected].

The deadline for application is June 20, 2014 and selected applicants will be notified by June 30, 2014.
