March 5, 2013 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm +04

Andrew Burns, a global macroeconomics expert at the World Bank, will be speaking at the American University of Armenia on Tuesday, March 5, as part of a lecture series sponsored by the Knowledge for Development Center at the World Bank-Armenia. The public event is organized by the AGBU Papazian Library at AUA.

Burns, who serves as the World Bank’s Manager of Global Macroeconomics in the Development Prospects Group, will be discussing the global economic prospects for ensuring growth over the medium term. The lecture is open to public and will be held in English.

During his presentation, Burns will present analysis published in the latest edition of Global Economic Prospects, including a view on how fragility in the Euro Area, as well as the fall out in the wake of the January 1 fiscal cliff deadline in the United States can affect growth prospects in developing countries. He will also provide insights into recent developments in key developing economies and the impact these will have on global growth.

Global Economic Prospects, is a biannual report published by the World Bank examining trends in the global economy and how they affect developing countries. Burns is the report’s lead author and task manager.

Before joining the World Bank, Burns was the Head of Desk for the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and France at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), where he supervised and wrote the OECD’s Economic Surveys for these countries. He also played a lead role in the OECD’s Jobs Study, overseeing the evaluation of labor market policies in each of the organization’s 30 member countries.

Prior to joining the OECD, Burns worked at the Economic Council of Canada where he wrote on labor market and macroeconomic issues. Burns holds degrees from the University of Manitoba and McGill University in Canada.
