Sustainable Food Supply Chains: Scenario Planning and Evaluation

September 6, 2017 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm +04

On September 6, the  Acopian Center for the Environment in collaboration with Manoogian Simone College of Business and Economics will host  Sustainable Food Supply Chains:  Scenario Planning and Evaluation. The main goal of the talk is to discuss innovations and transitions to a resilient natural-resource use for food supply chains globally. The talk will focus on the impacts of climate change, the influences of changing consumer behaviors, and the impacts of rapid urbanization worldwide.

Regional impact scenarios of climate change show a high risk of supply deadlocks, creating critical food-security challenges in some regions. New management approaches to food supply chains require “integrated” and system-level solutions. A conceptual integration beyond the primary/agricultural sectors should be carried out especially for water or energy intensive food industries.

Conceptualizing such a resource nexus combined with eco-innovations for supply chains offer policy directions and recommendations that the speaker will discuss. Such integrated scenarios will also help businesses and industries understand how to adjust to expected changes in supplies and their values, particularly in the context of urban food systems.
