Public Seminar: Webex girls in ICT Forum

Under the auspices of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), International Girls in ICT (information and communications technology) Day is celebrated worldwide. International Girls in ICT Day has been organized in the USA and Europe for more than ten years. On April 25, 2013, Brussels hosted the 2013 Girls in ICT Day, co-organized by the European Commission, the European Parliament, and ITU. National events have been organized in Russia, Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Switzerland, Spain, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Luxembourg, among others.

This year International Girls in ICT Day will be celebrated for the third time in Armenia.  The celebration is an excellent opportunity to encourage girls in Armenia to pursue a career in ICT.

A forum, entitled “Expand Horizons, Change Attitudes,” will take place on April 25, 2014 from 13:00-16:00 at the American University of Armenia (40 Marshal Baghramyan Ave., Yerevan, 0019).

This year, for the second time, with the support Cisco, a worldwide leader in networking, the forum will be available via livestreaming for students and teachers across Armenia. The event will be livestreamed between AUA and Cisco Academy in London and in Minsk. During the forum, successful women from the ICT sector, science, government, and industry will share their knowledge and experience, as well their ideas for the road to success.

Awards in various categories will be granted to young girls from Yerevan and the regions based on the competition results. The winners will be selected from Yerevan and from the regions.

The event is organized with the support of the Ministry of Economy, with information support from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The forum is the initiative of the Women and Information Society NGO, the Enterprise Incubator Foundation, the Arm-Indian Center for Excellence, the Regional Mobile Application Laboratory for ECA, the Microsoft Innovation Center Armenia, the American University of Armenia, the worldwide leader in networking Cisco, Idram Internet Payment System Operator, and the National Center of Educational Technologies.
