Public Seminar: Emerging Trends in Transportation Engineering (and Cycling in Yerevan)

August 14, 2014 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm +04

About the Event:

Mr. Dolmajian will speak about two separate, but inter-related, topics. As a practitioner, he is constantly keeping pace with the changes in the profession of transportation engineering. Particularly, advances in information technologies are fundamentally changing the data collection and the modeling used in transportation planning. Mr. Dolmajian will touch upon key directions that information technologies are taking transportation engineering. Secondly, he has spent the past month at the AUA Acopian Center for the Environment conducting research on bicycling as a mode of alternative transport in Yerevan. He will present his work on this topic and recommendations for next steps. This is critical as there has been a boom in cycling in the city over the past couple of years. The city, however, does not have the infrastructure for safe and effective integration of this mode of transport. Mr. Dolmajian will look address critical issues.

About the Speaker:

Arthur Dolmajian is a transportation engineer from Montreal, Canada. He currently works for the Quebec Transportation Ministry as a traffic engineer. Prior to that, he has worked in the engineering consulting firm, CIMA+, also in Quebec. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from McGill University and Master’s degree in civil engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal where he specialized in transportation planning and highway engineering. He has spent the past month at the AUA Acopian Center for the Environment conducting research on bicycling as a mode of alternative transport.
