LIVE! Public Lecture by Governor Dukakis: The 2016 U.S. Presidential Elections

DukakisGov. Dukakis will be giving a public presentation on the current US presidential campaign and the American electoral process, organized by the PSIA program. Michael S. Dukakis, the son of Greek immigrants, studied law at Harvard University and served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1963-70. He was governor from 1975-79 and 1983-91. In 1988, he was the democratic nominee for president. Currently, Dukakis is a professor of political science at Northeastern University and a visiting professor at the UCLA School of Public Policy and Social Research. 

Katharine Dukakis has served on the President’s Commission on the Holocaust, the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, the board of the Refugee Policy Center, and the Task Force on Cambodian Children.

Gov. Michael Dukakis and his wife Katharine will be special guests at AUA from April 20th through the 22nd. While on campus, Gov. Dukakis and his wife Kitty will be meeting with the AUA community to share their experience and insight on public service, genocide education, health care, economic development, equal opportunity, and social welfare. Gov. Dukakis will also be having informal talks with students in political science, law, and communications classes. Mrs. Dukakis plans to visit MPH students, health care facilities and health care professionals and officials. 

They will also be attending the 100 LIVES initiative that will present the Aurora Prize for Humanity, and the 101st commemoration of the Armenian Genocide on April 24th. 

Long-time friends of the Armenian people, this is the Dukakises’ first visit to Armenia. In addition to events on the AUA campus, the 100 LIVES initiative, and the genocide commemoration, they plan to explore Armenia. As strong supporters of higher education, they hope to gain a better understanding how AUA contributes to Armenia’s development and to share their experience and example of public service with our students and community.
