On Nothing. Music as the Ultimate Nothing
November 23, 2016 @ 7:00 pm +04
In the midst of the culturally ambivalent environment of our times, we need a new take on art. Since necessity has long been one of the most certain motivators to change, let us use it in its full capacity to start a monthly series of public lectures on discovering the beauty of the overlooked art of classical music. This series aims to share the magic and joy of music from an unconventional perspective. It has no intention to change things very fast; nor does it aim at gaining popularity by criticizing what we are left with. Instead, it aims to create a friendly environment, looking closely at universally acclaimed musical treasures with the guidance of Araks Shahinyan – an enthusiastic, outspoken writer with a linguistics and political science background, a published author on music, and the Teaching Associate of Music at AUA. In these musical evenings, Araks will disabuse us of the erroneous notion that classical music is outdated, elitist, and superior. You will be guided into the tumultuous history of music-making and the anatomy of human emotions, experiencing all the while fine recordings that express some of the primal passions that underlie the human condition, war, peace, hate and love.
