MOZART. THE MAJOR MINOR

January 27, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm +04

Unconventional Talks on Music (Public Lecture Series)

Lecture 2. Mozart. The Major Minor

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Please confirm your attendance beforehand by sending an e-mail to Ani Baghumyan at [email protected]. Seats are limited.

Language of the event: English

As promised, we continue our series of public lectures on music. The topic for the second lecture is Mozart – the most popular yet seldom thoroughly discussed composer in the world!

What do we know about Mozart? Seemingly a lot. But do we know much beyond the facts that he was a child prodigy and died young? Was he as excellent and happy as most of his music is? Mozart’s huge musical oeuvre has a lot of disguised gems you would not necessarily hear at classical music concerts or recordings. During the lecture you will be given a chance to hear some excellent unpopular Mozart. The musical, historical, and psychological analysis of these pieces by Araks Shahinyan will broaden your view on music and grant a gratifying intellectual experience to “understand” it.

Have a friend/acquaintance/anyone interested in good music and eager to learn new approaches to discussing it? Take them with you and let us meet on January 27, 7pm at the American University of Armenia. You all are welcome!

Born in a city 29 years older than Rome, Araks Shahinyan is a fortunate graduate with excellence of two higher education institutions, namely Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences (BA) and American University of Armenia, School of Political Sciences and International Affairs (MA). Further studies include the American Institute of Political and Economic Systems at Charles University, Prague.

Having music background and being incessantly engaged in self-education, Araks – an enthusiastic, outspoken writer on the philosophy and aesthetics of classical music, a published author – has participated in a number of international conferences, writing research papers and presenting topics from fine arts to literature, from classical music to political science and international affairs. Her multidisciplinary and unconventional approach towards the analysis of music provides a peculiar and comprehensive understanding for the vitality of music and art in general.
