“Deportation” of Azerbaijanis from the Armenian SSR (1948-1952)

About the Event:
In 1948-1952 the leadership of USSR, upon request of Azerbaijani leadership, transferred a considerable part of the Azerbaijani population, constantly living in Armenia (approximately 44168 people, from which 9000 returned to Armenia) and provided the neighboring country with the necessary workforce. The transfer did not have any anti-Azerbaijani character and was carried out in harmony with the spirit of the time, which was “in a voluntary-compulsory” manner.
The present leadership of Azerbaijan, presenting this movement of the population as “deportation and genocide”, distorts the historical truth and shamelessly attempts to justify its own xenophobia by discrediting the moral image of Armenians and Armenia.
