April 25, 2013 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm +04

YEREVAN–The American University of Armenia will host a  forum dedicated to the advancement of women in the sphere of information and communication technology (ICT) on Thursday, April 25.

The event, which will take place from 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm at AUA’s Manoogian Hall, is dedicated to “International Girls in ICT Day”, which is being marked for the second time this year in Armenia.

“Since 2000, ICT has been one of the fastest growing industry branches in Armenia. The growing demand for a range of ICT skills present a unique window of opportunity to properly position girls and women in the industry and provide them with the tools necessary to succeed,” explains Narine Abazian, president of the Women and Information Society NGO, which is organizing the event. “This forum is an excellent opportunity to encourage girls to choose a career in ICT.”

Two-hundred high-school girls and female ICT students from Yerevan will participate in this year’s forum while successful women from various industries will share their knowledge and experiences on how to succeed in the ICT sector.

The event will also be available online to allow teachers of infomatics and high schools students from Armenia’s regions to participate remotely. More information is available here.

The forum is organized by the Women and Information Society NGO, with support from the Ministry of the Economy, the USAID Enterprise Development & Market Competitiveness Project, the American University of Armenia, Cisco, VivaCell-MTS, and the National Center of Educational Technologies.
