April 9, 2015 @ 11:15 am - 1:00 pm +04

blood-drive

Dear Graduate & Undergraduate Students, Alumni, Faculty & Staff,

AUA Graduate Student Council is pleased to announce that the Armenian Bone    Marrow Donor Registry Charitable Trust (ABMDR) and the AUA Graduate Student Council are organizing another Blood Drive in AUA.

Come join the students, faculty and staff, alumni to give just a small amount of your blood to save a life by following the latin saying “Facta non verba” which means “Actions speak louder than words”.

Last time around 80 people donated their blood, including graduate and undergraduate students, Vice President of Finance/CFO Gevorg Goyunyan, Director of Admissions Arina Zohrabian, GSC representatives, members of the faculty and staff.

“The ABMDR was founded in 1999 as an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, with a mission to ensure that every ethnic Armenian struck with a life threatening blood-related illness is able to find hope for long-term survival through the identification of a genetically compatible bone marrow match.

The ABMDR is a member of the World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA) and Bone Marrow Donor Worldwide (BMDW) sharing its database information with other registries around the world. In January 2008, ABMDR became a member of National Marrow Donor Program – NMDP.

ABMDR Stem Cell Harvest Center in Yerevan is the only center of its kind in the region. It is designed to bring the life-saving procedure of stem cell transplantation within the reach of many more patients. It will play a vital role in the treatment of other diseases as well, such as many cancers, diabetes, and heart ailments.

In 2006 the ABMDR’s laboratory became the first laboratory of its kind in the Commonwealth of Independent States (former Soviet republics) to receive accreditation from the highly respected European Federation of Immunogenetics (EFI). The ABMDR operates recruitment centers in Los Angeles, Boston (USA), Iran, Lebanon, and Syria.
In these years more than 26.000 volunteer donors were registered in the database, 2883 potential matches were defined for 2481 patients.”
