YEREVAN, Armenia – From June 27- July 4, the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics at Yerevan State University (YSU), in collaboration with the Zaven & Sonia Akian College of Science & Engineering (CSE) of the American University of Armenia (AUA), held the Fourth Summer School of Mathematics and Applications at YSU’s guesthouse, Hamalsaran, located in Tsaghkadzor.
Narine Abazian is the President and Founder of Women and Information Society NGO, and a graduate from AUA’s Industrial Engineering Program. Her organization, whose mission is “to contribute to the integration of women and girls in the Information Society of Armenia” is responsible for the fact that, since 2012, Armenia has celebrated International Girls in ICT Day (Information and Communications Technology). Recognition of this day works to encourage and empower girls to pursue careers in ICT.
The newly established AUA Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing Lab brings dynamic data mapping as well as remote sensing capacity to AUA’s programs and research centers. Many of the disciplines offered at AUA are poised to benefit from the lab’s capabilities.
Support to Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and Mining Transparency Project Launched at AUAJuly 19, 2017
The “Support to Enhance Armenia’s Capacity to Implement EITI and to Increase Transparency and Accountability in Mining Licenses and Contracts” project was launched at AUA.
Zaven and Sonia Akian were welcomed to AUA with their family where they attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the building named in their honor.
AUA hosted a public lecture and workshop titled “Towards 100% Renewable Energy” with keynote speaker, Ms. Veronica Rocha, Renewable Energy Branch Manager for the Hawaii State Energy Office (HSEO).
On July 4, a group of students from the American University of Armenia (AUA) visited TUMO Center for Creative Technologies (TUMO) and presented the projects they had prepared during the spring semester as a part of their course curriculum. As part of the CS252/342 course “Data Science with R,” students were instructed to scrape data off the web from a resource of their choice, visualize and analyze that data, and present their findings as their final projects.
