Every year, on May 31, the world celebrates World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO) highlighting the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocates for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption. The theme of this year’s campaign is “Tobacco – a threat to development.”

Karine Minasyan (MPH ’15), alumna of the American University of Armenia (AUA) Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian School of Public Health (SPH), has been awarded a year-long research scholarship (2017/2018) to conduct the research project entitled “Study of Thyroid Dysfunction in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus” at the Department of Endocrinology, Charité University Hospital (Berlin, Germany).

YEREVAN, Armenia– In April 2017, the Health Systems and Reform, an open access peer-reviewed international journal, published the article “National Scale-Up of Results-Based Financing in Primary Health Care: The Case of Armenia”, which looked into the interaction of contextual factors, actors, and processes that contributed to the successful scale-up and integration of result based financing (RBF) to Armenia’s primary health care system.

PORTO, Portugal – American University of Armenia (AUA) Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian School of Public Health’s Zvart Avedisian Onanian Center for Health Services Research and Development (CHSR) Research Assistants Armine Abrahamyan (MPH ’15) and Varduhi Hayrumyan (MPH ’16) were competitively selected to participate and present during the 7th European Conference on Tobacco or Health (ECToH) in Porto, Portugal, March 22-25, 2017.
