New Course on Crypto and Blockchain in the LL.M. Program

YEREVAN, Armenia — The American University of Armenia (AUA) Master of Laws (LL.M.) program recently initiated a new course in “Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies: Law, Business, and Policy.” This is an unprecedented and unique course offering to LL.M. students. Designed and taught by Vardan Khachatryan, adjunct lecturer at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the course aims to provide “practicing lawyers and regulators with a deep understanding of the technology and existing and developing regulations in the sphere around the world.”

“It is always a challenge to create a course from scratch. In this particular case, the challenge was even bigger since I was aiming at creating content that covers a dynamic industry where regulations change on a daily basis and the learning materials may become dated in a matter of weeks. The students not only have to learn and understand the law but also the underlying technology, which can be quite sophisticated,” remarks Khachatryan.

In the course, Khachatryan introduces students to the existing laws and regulations in major jurisdictions such as the United States and the European Union, also covering the laws that may be applicable to Armenia. Most importantly, the course is designed to offer students real-life practical knowledge and experience.

“Working at a fast-growing Web3-driven Fastex group of companies with Armenian roots, I am interacting with regulators and law practitioners from around the world on a daily basis. This allows me to bring to the classroom practical knowledge and expertise,” he underscores.

Under Khachatryan’s leadership, the legal team of Fastex recently received a fully regulated status in a European Union country and is in the process of getting additional regulatory approvals globally, paving the way for the company to become a frontrunner in the blockchain and crypto industry.
