“Tobacco Treatment” e-Learning Course Adapted for Armenian Health Professionals

The Avedisian Onanian Center for Health Services Research and Development (CHSR) of the Turpanjian School of Public Health, American University of Armenia (AUA), in partnership with the European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention (ENSP) developed, adapted for the local context and translated into Armenian the “Tobacco Treatment” e-learning course, which received accreditation from the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME).

There is an increasing consensus that tobacco dependence is a disease that must be treated by health care professionals, who could play a prominent role in both motivating patients to quit smoking and ensuring they use evidence-based treatment to quit smoking. Clinicians’ advice to quit is powerful in triggering a quit attempt; therefore, addressing tobacco use with patients should be a priority for all health professionals.

This training program, offered in 16 European languages, provides the opportunity for health care professionals in Europe to receive training in the latest evidence-based practice for helping their patients to quit smoking. CHSR Senior Researcher Dr. Arusyak Harutyunyan and Research Assistant Zhanna Sargsyan led the e-learning training adaptation process in Armenia.

By the order № 3383-Ա of the Minister of Health of Armenia dated December 25, 2018, the course received two Continuous Professional Development theoretical credits. After successful completion of the course the participants will receive certificates. The course details can be accessed here in English and Armenian.
