Public Health Internship Experiences in the Fifth MPH Poster Conference

YEREVAN, Armenia – Second-year students of the Master of Public Health (MPH) program of the American University of Armenia (AUA)’s Turpanjian School of Public Health (SPH) recently delivered poster presentations describing their internship experiences at various public health related organizations in Armenia. It was the fifth poster conference organized for MPH students. Dr. Tsovinar Harutyunyan was the internship coordinator.

Internship sites included the Armenian Red Cross Society (ARCS); Nork-Marash Medical Center (NMMC); the Chemotherapy Clinic at Muratsan Hospital Complex; Children of Armenia Fund (COAF); FMD K&L Europe; Jinishian Memorial Foundation (JMF); Ministry of Health (MoH) of the Republic of Armenia (RA); Health and Labor Inspectorate Body of RA Coimbatore Cancer Foundation (CCF), India; National Institute of Research in Tuberculosis, Chennai, India; and University of Utah.

SPH faculty and researchers, representatives of internship organizations, MPH students and alumni, and other guests voted for the best poster, with student Grace Egaraj receiving the most votes. The poster committee of experts, comprising SPH faculty and researchers, approached each student and asked questions about their internship projects. The committee’s choice went to Marine Mkrtchyan’s and Anush Taslakyan’s posters. All three winning students received small gifts from SPH.

The Public Health Internship program was added to the MPH curriculum with the objective of providing students with an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge, ideas, and skills acquired in the classroom to real-world public health practice, as well as to network with public health professionals.

The AUA School of Public Health works actively to improve population health and health services in Armenia and the region through interdisciplinary education and development of public health professionals to be leaders in public health, health services research and evaluation, and health care delivery and management.
