VivaCell GM Ralph Yirikian Lectures on Leadership at AUA
2 min readYEREVAN, Armenia ‒ On April 4, 2018, the American University of Armenia (AUA) hosted a public lecture on the key facets of leadership by Ralph Yirikian, the General Manager of VivaCell-MTS, Armenia. Yirikian was introduced by AUA adjunct lecturer and head of human resources at VivaCell-MTS, Lara Tcholakian.
As an exemplary leader, Yirikian shared his success story and lessons learned while managing VivaCell-MTS, Armenia’s leading telecommunications operator. He started his talk stressing the importance of high-quality education and lifelong learning. Encouraging AUA students to constantly develop their skills and gain experience, he confessed, “Till today I lack so much knowledge that I need to learn because life is a journey where you learn something every day. And this should be an objective in your life. You don’t know everything. You think you know, but you don’t. Till today I’m still learning.”
Yirikian mentioned that a good leader should always respect the company’s employees and advocate equality at work. Moreover, a good leader should motivate the team as they are the engine of the company.
“Try to make the best out of your life journey, to learn as much as you can, to build your experience, to create a healthy work environment based on respect, based on acknowledgement, based on fair treatment. And you will make it,” he concluded his speech addressing AUA students.
Following Yirikian’s inspirational talk, the attendees asked him questions related to monitoring employees at the workplace, the biggest challenge he faced in his career, his role models, and whether leadership is an inborn quality.
