YEREVAN, Armenia – On August 31, a high-level delegation from the Republic of Iraq headed by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Researches, visited the American University of Armenia (AUA). The delegation was comprised of high rank officials from the Ministry, department heads and rectors from Universities in Iraq, as well as representatives from the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Armenia and RA Ministry of Education and Science.

The delegation had a tour at the University led by AUA President Dr. Armen Der Kiureghian. Later, they had a meeting in the Akian Art Gallery of AUA with the deans and other representatives of different departments of the University. Mr. Aram Keryan, the operations manager at EPIC (Entrepreneurship & Product Innovation Center of AUA), familiarized the guests with the main aims, tasks, and projects that EPIC is currently overtaking. In his speech the Minister, Prof. Abd al-Razak Abd al-Jalil al-Isa, highlighted AUA’s qualifications that may offer the students an opportunity to build a solid basis for further studies and hence, acknowledged the importance of his visit to AUA. He also encouraged the Iraqi students to apply to AUA, especially now when they have the chance to study with the support of the Aurora Gratitude Scholarship.

The first international student, who received the Aurora Scholarship to study at AUA is Riyadh Mohammed from Baghdad, Iraq. He  is currently working towards receiving his master’s degree in Computer and Information Science (CSE). Starting the 2017-2018 academic year, the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative in cooperation with Scholae Mundi Armenia will grant scholarships to students from Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt to study at AUA.

Dr. Armen Der Kiureghian noted: “It was a pleasure to host the Iraqi delegation, including Minister Prof. A. Razak J. Al-Essa. We greatly appreciated his willingness to encourage Iraqi students to apply to study at AUA. We would be pleased to admit more qualified students from Iraq as a part of the Aurora Gratitude Scholarship program. They add diversity to our student body and enrich the educational and cultural experience of all students. We look forward to more interactions with our Iraqi colleagues.”

AUA cherishes the importance of maintaining a culturally diverse student body. A significant number of current students are international students arriving from all over the world. AUA grants them the opportunity to not only receive a world class education along with enjoying the modern facilities but also to do so with the support of numerous scholarships allocated specifically for the international students.
