BAB Student Studies Abroad at the University of Cadiz

2 min read

Within the framework of Erasmus+ program, Bachelor of Arts in Business (BAB) program student from the American University of Armenia (AUA) Lusine Snkhchyan was granted the opportunity to spend her Spring 2017 semester at the University of Cádiz in Spain. Below she shares her experience and impressions with the AUA community:

Visiting another country is considered to be an experience, but studying abroad is also known to be life changing. Each exchange semester starts somewhere. You pack your suitcase, say goodbye to your friends and family, and leave your home country full of expectations and adventures that are waiting ahead.

Luckily, all my expectations were exceeded during these two months in Spain. One of the most indispensable parts of a semester abroad is adapting to a new language and culture. As a BAB student, I have always enjoyed International Economics. The first day of classes was challenging and interesting at the same since I had to enter to a new environment and speak completely a different language. Along with learning new techniques, theories and policies, it became even more exciting to combine it with a new language.

The cozy streets of Cadiz, the generosity and hospitality of people and the beauty of local nature amazed me each day. Tortillas, paellas, flamenco, the beach and the cultural exchanges is all that one could ask for after overwhelming weeks of studying.

Being in a foreign country motivates me to learn more, dive deeper and explore. I often draw parallels when I see something extraordinary and I wonder, “Maybe this is something we need in Armenia?” Cadiz inspired me to come back with a greater vigor for academic pursuits and renewed my interest in lifelong learning. The program gives me a unique set of skills that are necessary to navigate in effective, civil, and positive manner across different cultures. Discussing some political and economic problems in a multicultural environment gives an overall picture of the situation and helps to understand the roots of those problems. I came here with just a suitcase, but I will leave with long lasting friendships, a large network, and unforgettable memories.
