AUA Undergraduate Open House

2 min read

YEREVAN, Armenia – On Sunday March 6th, the American University of Armenia (AUA) hosted a public Open House to present its three undergraduate programs – Business, Computational Sciences, and English & Communications, in addition to the admissions criteria and ways of financing education at AUA.

The Open House hosted about 400 attendees including 250 prospective students and 150 parents. It was an excellent opportunity to meet and network with the AUA faculty, program chairs, staff, alumni, and students. Prospective students and parents attended student led tours of the campus, learned about the admissions process, explored university facilities, and were informed about the variety of non-academic services available.

After registration, Provost Dr. Randall Rhodes gave opening remarks in the Large Auditorium where he covered the 3 aspects of the “American” in AUA: American in a participatory, student-centered learning environment, American in freedom of speech and inquiry, and American in curricula that are designed for workforce preparedness. He assured that higher education at AUA encourages students to continually rethink disciplinary assumptions, and that student learning outcomes match employers’ expectations – not for the job market of today, but the job market four years from now when these students plan to graduate.

After the opening remarks, detailed presentations about the application process and financial aid assistance were delivered. The attendees had a chance to ask further questions in the “Breakout Sessions”, where the Office of Admissions and the Office of the Registrar provided additional information.

The other “Breakout Sessions” were held by the undergraduate programs, where attendees had a chance to visit different information sessions based on their program of interest. In each session, faculty and students were present to elaborate and engage prospective students and parents about the programs, courses, schedules and overall experiences. A Business & Society mock class was held to display the classroom setting and teaching style at AUA.
