Designing with Data: An Open Discussion

YEREVAN, Armenia – On July 20, 2015, the American University of Armenia (AUA) held an open discussion on ‘Designing with Data.’ The event brought together a panel of nine speakers from a wide variety of fields to discuss issues related to the development of information technology and our relationship with objects and the built environment. 

Speakers included Alen Amirkhanian, who discussed ‘Technology and Eco Harmonization,’ Arthur Dolmajian, who discussed ‘Computational Tools for Mobility,’ Armen Mkrtchyan, who discussed ‘Precision Agriculture: Drones and Remote Sensing,’ Biayna Bogosian, who discussed ‘Dynamic Sensing,’ Lilly Djaniants, who discussed the ‘Impulse Lab Concept,’ Derenik Baghramian, who discussed ‘Smart Cities,’ Arek Keshishian, who discussed ‘Why BIM?,’ Siuneh Arakelian, who discussed ‘Re-mapping Gyumri,’ and Arghishti Yeghiazaryan, who discussed ‘Mapping in Vayots Dzor.’

The talks explored the renewed interest in the relationships between urbanism, social dynamics, and natural phenomena brought on by the rise of digital methods in design, real-time environmental sensing and physical computing, and simulation platforms for environmental analysis.
