2 min read

Yerevan, Armenia – On April 27, 2015 the American University of Armenia (AUA) Acopian Center for the Environment, in cooperation with the AUA College of Science and Engineering, hosted Dr. Patrick Meyer, the science and technology advisor for the Economic Growth Office of the USAID Armenia Mission.

In recent years, the United States has registered significant energy efficiency and renewable energy gains: solar electricity generation in the United States has increased 4000% since 2010; the U.S. is twice as energy efficient today as it was in 1980, while its GDP has grown 2.5 times; and, America’s greenhouse gas emissions are today as low as they were in the mid-1990s.

Dr. Meyer underlined these and other clean energy developments in the United States, highlighting the goals that 29 U.S. states have adopted, setting aggressive standards for renewable energy development. He also examined how new U.S. energy efficiency standards, which will save $300 billion in energy costs through 2030, can impact global development.

Dr. Meyer highlighted the role and impact policy decision making has on the world’s second-largest energy consuming nation.

Dr. Meyer’s presentation is available here.
