Matriculation Ceremony Honors AUA’s Second Undergraduate Class

YEREVAN, Armenia – On Thursday, September 4, 2014, the American University of Armenia (AUA) welcomed its second undergraduate class with the 2014 Matriculation Ceremony. Students, faculty, staff, and families gathered in AUA’s Large Auditorium to formally induct the incoming undergraduates. AUA President Dr. Armen Der Kiureghian offered his welcoming remarks to the new students, sharing, “A very important part of your AUA education is to help you achieve the ability for independent thought and sound judgement… I want to congratulate you and your families for your achievements and wish you much success as you are starting this new and important phase of life.”

Provost Donald E. Fuller also welcomed students, noting, “We tested you every way we can figure out how to test you and you have done pretty well, so we have an idea that you belong here and that you are ready to go. But there are certain things you cannot test: initiative, intuition, determination, curiosity… Put those together and be yourself, and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.”

New international student, Venkata Induru, says, “I did not have any expectations of the university when I first came here. Now, I feel like we are one family. Students, staff and faculty are very close to each other. It is beautiful.”

AUA’s undergraduate program was launched in the fall of 2013 and offers degrees in Business, English, Communications, and Computational Sciences. This year, with 400 new undergraduate students entering the university, the undergraduate student body will reach about 700 students.
