YEREVAN, Armenia – On April 22, 2014, representatives from the American University of Armenia (AUA) met with Minister of Defense of the Republic Armenia Mr. Seyran Ohanyan and the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), by which AUA will provide valuable educational resources and tools to representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces. AUA President Dr. Bruce M. Boghosian, Provost Dr. N. Dennis Leavens, Vice President of Operations Mr. Ashot Ghazaryan, and Vice President of Finance Mr. Gevorg Goyunyan represented AUA at the meeting.

The agreement will allow AUA to implement a series of educational initiatives to support service members throughout their military career. These will include English trainings for language teachers at the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces, training for military personnel during the last six months of their service, training and professional development courses for civil servants and military personnel at the Ministry of Defense, as well as scholarships for undergraduate and graduate applicants at AUA from the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces. Participants in these programs will benefit from small classroom sizes and mentoring opportunities, and classes specializing in preparing for exams such as the GMAT, GRE, LSAT, and TOEFL iBT will serve as stepping stones to higher education at AUA or elsewhere.

Founded in 1991, the American University of Armenia (AUA) is a private, independent university located in Yerevan, Armenia and affiliated with the University of California. AUA provides a global education in Armenia and the region, offering high-quality, graduate and undergraduate studies, encouraging civic engagement, and promoting public service and democratic values.
