< 1 min read

YEREVAN, Armenia – Director of the Digital Library of Armenian Literature at the American University of Armenia (AUA) Meruzhan Karapetyan was recently featured as a guest of the “Hayetsaket” Program. In this interview, Karapetyan speaks about the work done by the AUA Digital Library since its establishment in 1999.

The AUA Digital Library has digitized classic Armenian literature from the 5th through 18th centuries, ranging from Koryun to Sayat Nova. Since 1999, this information has been free, searchable, and available for public use on the web. Since 2007, the AUA Digital Library has also digitized the works of over 69 authors from Western Armenia and the Armenian diaspora. Among these digitized works are Armenian scientific literature, research, and studies.

Karapetyan stressed the importance and urgency of promoting Classical Armenian studies because so much Armenian literature is written in Classical Armenian (grabar). He also spoke about the importance of prioritizing the physical presence of Armenian literature on the internet, especially on websites like Wikipedia, especially in today’s increasingly digital world.
