AUA’s AGBU Papazian Library: A Modern Landscape to Grow, Learn and Thrive

2 min read

The American University of Armenia’s (AUA) AGBU Papazian Library was founded in 1991, the same year as the university. Named after the Papazian family, a generous benefactor of AUA, the AGBU Papazian Library is home to over 42,000 volumes of books and over 65,000 online journals.

Along with the American University of Armenia, the Library has been evolving at a rapid rate for the past 21 years.

Before renovation, the Library lacked the space and resources to serve the growing student body. But thanks to a grant from USAID, the AGBU Papazian Library has been transformed into a state-of-the-art research facility, one of few in Armenia. Through the same grant from USAID, the renovated AUA Cafeteria provides a clean, friendly environment for community members to enjoy.

The new 786 sq.m. Library facility was designed by the Storaket Architectural Studio to meet the growing circulation demands of the 12,000 patrons it currently serves. With AUA’s undergraduate program launching in Fall 2013, the number of students is expected to quadruple over the next four years.

The Library, now doubled in size after renovations, has been equipped with individual study carrels, group study rooms, 35 computer workstations, and both wired and wireless internet access throughout the facilities. Through Off-Campus Access, patrons can utilize the Library’s resources any time, any day, from any place with an internet connection.

The Library is an invaluable resource supporting not only the AUA community, but students and scholars from other institutions, as well as the general public.

The AGBU Papazian Library hosts several annual conferences, as well as various seminars, lecture series, book readings, trainings, and workshops. The Library collaborates with local high schools, as well as with other state university libraries.

By implementing contemporary methods of management and technology, the Library provides the most advanced collection of academic resources in the region.
