Legal Scholar Tigran Sahakyan Presents New Book on Wilson’s Arbitral Award

Mr. Tigran Sahakyan presented his new monograph on Wilson’s Arbitral Award.   This book is the latest in a series of detailed international legal analyses he has prepared on Armenia’s pursuit of statehood in the 19th and 20th centuries.   During his presentation Mr. Sahakyan explained how Wilson’s Arbitral Award is still in force, under the 1907 Hague Convention and multilateral compromis at San Remo, dated April 25, 1920, and how the legality of this award, made on November 22, 1920, has never been controverted  and how it was duly transmitted by the Allied Supreme Council to Armenia and Turkey without objection from either party.   He noted that the Republic of Armenia as the legal successor to the 1918-1920 Republic has de jure rights to the territory awarded by the Wilsonian arbitration, which is remains uncontroverted as an official act of the United States of America, which was acting as an international arbitrator under the 1907 Hague Convention.   Mr. Sahakyan also addressed Armenia’s legal rights to Nakhichevan and Nagorno-Karabagh.   His other works include Fateful Treaties, a systematic analysis of the treaties relating to Armenia’s regained statehood in the WWI era, and a detailed history of Gugark, including the Armenian communities in Javakhk.
